Getting ADSL connected to your home

First you need to find a ISP and contact them asking if you can connect to ADSL in your area. Or you can use this site to test it. http://www.telecom.co.nz/jslinecheck or http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps

If ADSL is avalible in your area the isp will create a account for you. They will contact telecom wholesale/chorus to send a technician to install a filter in your house and connect your phone line to the ADSL DSLAM in the local exchange. You can install your own filter but it is best if the telecom technician does it.

Next you have the choice to purchase either a ADSL modem or ADSL router. The Routers are best if you want to connect more than one machine to the internet. The modems are cheaper and best for connecting a single machine.

ADSL Modem/Router Settings

Telecoms ADSL service uses PPP over ATM or its called PPPoATM

The settings you need to enter into your modem or router are
